Girls Empowered to Meet Success (GEMS)
History
Girls Empowered to Meet Success (GEMS) is an organization specifically designed to serve girls and young ladies who have a need to be empowered GEMS was founded in December 2010 by the staff at Longfields Elementary School. GEMS is a program that provides girls and young ladies with the tools to become an Empowered and Independent young lady with self esteem, positive attitude, cultural awareness, a sense of community and leadership skills.
Mission
Girls Empowered to Meet Success (GEMS) mission is to empower girls and young ladies, ages 9 – 12, to enhance their self esteem, leadership skills, mentorship, and communication skills. We will accomplish this through our SEVEN GEMS enrichment activity program and self-reflection lessons.
Our seven GEMS program includes the following topics:
Painite GEMSTONE – Self Esteem Awareness
This GEM is the rarest gem mineral. It is pink, red, or brown in color. It is strongly pleochloic (showing different hues from different angles and it fluoresces a lovely green.) - SELF ESTEEM AWARENESS (Who Am I?)
Majorite GEMSTONE – Mentorship/Peer Support (Bullying, Peer Pressure and Kindness Workshops)
This GEM forms under the extreme pressure that occurs 250 miles (400 k) or more beneath the earth’s surface or from the shock of a meteorite impact. It’s a purple form of garnet that was discovered in 1970 in the Coorara meteorite near Eucia, Western Australia. - MENTORSHIP/PEER (What do I stand for?)
Diamond GEMSTONE – Mentorship Community Service
This GEM is the ultimate gemstone, having few weaknesses and many strengths. It is well known that Diamond is the hardest substance found in nature. It is supposed to be the most powerful when combined with other gemstones. But even as hard as it is, it is not impervious. It has a broad color range, high refraction, high dispersion or fire, very low reactivity to chemicals, rarity, and of course, extreme harness and durability. - COMMUNITY SERVICE (What can I do?)
Ruby GEMSTONE– Leadership Building (Speaking / Debate)
This GEM gives all round success in life and is the karka for leadership. This improves the leadership qualities and puts the person in forefront. It gives intellectual capacities and improves one’s writing and speaking powers. – LEADERSHIP BUILDING (How can I inspire?)
Yellow Sapphire GEMSTONE – Etiquette / Cultural Awareness
This GEM gives one material wealth and prosperity. It is worn to give one comfort and also status. People aspiring for administrative and political positions must wear it to give them the benefit of fate on their side. - ETIQUETTE / CULTURAL (How will I act?)
Emerald GEMSTONE – Academic / College Career Preparation
This GEM is the most favored of people seeking intellectual powers as well as for those seeking wealth. This calms down the nervous system and improves the capacity to make decisions. – ACADEMIC / COLLEGE (What will I become?)
Red Coral GEMSTONE – Fitness / Nutrition
This is the GEM that bestows upon a person courage and strength. It also improves the muscular system and improves the capability of healthy living. – FITNESS / NUTRITION (How will I live?)
